WHAT IS BALANCE? |
||
|
Some definitions of balance in the dictionary are as follows: 1. A state of equilibrium or equal relationship. 2. Bodily poise. 3. Mental or emotional stability. 4. Harmonious proportion of parts in the whole. 5. Something used to produce an equilibrium. 6. The act of balancing or weighing. There are also other terms in the dictionary such as balance of power (a distribution of forces among nations such that none may acquire a degree of power dangerous to the others), balance of trade (the difference in value between exports and imports), balance sheet (a statement in tabular form to show assets and liabilities or profits and loss), and balance wheel (the oscillating wheel of a watch or chronometer, that determines its rate of motion). Ecclesiastes 1:2-3 and 2:4-11 are examples of being out of balance and how miserable it can make you. Solomon says "I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards; I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruits: I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees: I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I have great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me: I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments and that of all sorts. So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labor: and this was my portion of all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and behold all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun". Ecclesiastes 1:3 says "What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?" Solomon had everything the world could have ever offered him, but yet he had tried it all and found that everything under the sun (or in this fleshly world) could not make him happy. Nothing in this world can take the place of God's perfect peace and joy. Proverbs 11:1 says "A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight. When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom". It seems that God expects us to have balance in our lives so that he can delight in us. If we are balanced, we can also delight in Him and in all His ways. Then we won't be stressed and too tired to enjoy all the wonderful things God has planned for us. A balanced life is one that has work, rest, and play in it. When one of these is out of balance, then you can suffer greatly in your relationships with others and also the proper growth of your own self. When you are a balanced person, then you have the energy and patience to carry out whatever God's Will for your life is. You will also put everything into proper perspective, such as family relationships. If you are living in balance, your family won't suffer because of your ministry or work habits. Ask the Holy Spirit now to show you what you need to do to have balance in your life. There may be some things you need to cut out and some things you need to add, but when you do things God's way, you will see great and mighty things happen and you'll be so excited that you won't want to do things any other way. IT'S SO WONDERFUL TO KNOW AND DO GOD'S WILL AND STAY IN IT EACH DAY. Article written and authored by Cathy Deaton and is her own work.
